ASHFORD

1830

Ashford founded with an inn called The Squatters inn, it was build in 1849.

1851

In 1851 the other move was Steel’s accommodation opened in Ashford, NSW

1864

2 busy hotels, stores, police station, blacksmith post office & school rooms

1865

A new hotel popularly known as Carrol’s began trading in Ashford, NSW

1870

Town population began to decline & soon only Carrol’s inn was licensed.

1872

Ashford experienced its biggest flood with most of the villages submerged,

1901

Commercial Hotel build by Ronald Johnston & Public Hall built in 1901.

1919

Population of Ashford Shire was 2100 with 300 people in village.

1920

Commercial Hotel, Extra accommodation in cottage, galvanised iron halls for meetings.

1924

Willam Gobbert became Publican of Commercial Hotel which included the shop & theatre,

1933

In 1933, The Ashford Shire had 3800 people with 588 people living in the village.

1936

Another floor added to Hotel, Hall was renovated & Talkies was introduced in theatre.
